The Glirma Residence

Custom Built Energy Efficient Home in Marshall, NC

The house is a custom built construction from the ground up. With approx. 2500 sf of passive solar construction, this house has a high level of insulation including 2” foam exterior insulation and cementitious stucco exterior. The house is also bermed into the north hill for additional energy efficiency.

The customers have been very happy with the energy performance of the house. They primarily heat with a Jotul wood stove (not gas furnace), and rarely run AC in the summer. The house has a full generator back up for all systems and the barn.

All trim, interior doors, and built-ins are constructed from reclaimed wood from other buildings that were disasembled on the customer’s property. This material was kiln dried to sterilize for bugs, and Red Shed Woodworks shop fabricated all items.

The home has stained and polished concrete floors, as well as a custom ¼ sawed White Oak duth door built by Red Shed.
